Intelligent Hotels

Comfortable guests and less energy spent on empty rooms, with guest room management (GRMS)

Reception sees every room at a glance: who is in, the air conditioning, open windows, temperature and humidity. We automate guest rooms and common areas, from lighting and climate to blinds and energy metering, on one system.

The problem

The sensors are there. Nobody sees them.

Many hotels already have window contacts on the air conditioning and key-card power switches. But each works on its own, so nobody sees an open window, a wrong temperature setting or a sensor that has gone offline until a guest complains. Staff walk the corridors to check rooms, because none of it shows up at reception.

Industry context

9.9%

More than half of Greek hotels already have window contacts. Fewer than 1 in 10 have a central control system.

Only 9.9% of Greek hotels have a central building control system, although 56.3% already have window contacts on their air conditioning. Survey of 896 hotels, fieldwork 2024.

Outcomes

What you gain

Four things a hotel notices first: the energy bill, the guests, the front desk and the maintenance team.

  • Less energy spent on empty rooms

When the guest leaves, the room steps down to economy; when a balcony door opens, the air conditioning pauses. Every room’s consumption is measured.

  • Comfort for every guest

Welcome scenes, a night path to the bathroom, their own music, and a room that is cool when they walk in.

  • The whole floor on one screen

Reception, maintenance and housekeeping see the same floor screen: which rooms are empty, which door is open, which sensor needs a look.

  • Faults and open windows caught early

The floor screen shows an open balcony door, a wrong temperature setting or an offline sensor in any room, before a guest has to call reception.

Industry context

10.8–26.5%

In field tests in six US hotels, guest-room controls that react to occupancy cut heating, ventilation and air-conditioning energy use by 10.8% to 26.5%, or 18.4% on average.
